Same ol' shit!

Well as promised I'm here to tell you what I thought about the ABC special last night. Here is what I posted on there website:

I was born and raised in Floyd County Kentucky ( about 40 minutes from Paintsville). This special was just another poor depiction of life in eastern Ky. Yes, there are several families that live that way. Yes, there is a drug problem. Yes, there are good amount of people without their teeth. But not all of us were raised that way. It infuriates me that everytime eastern Ky is shown on T.V. we are made out to be ignorant, filthy, incestual, drug addicted, and poor. Why can they not show how when something terrible happens we all rally aroung each other? Why don't they show how many young people leave to get an education but then return to better their community? Or that people move back there to raise their children because they don't even have to worry about locking their doors at night?

The reason Jeremy makes $60,000 a year is because his job is so dangerous. Notice how before the men spoke they had to look to the side to the mine owners to see if they were allowed to answer. Hat's off to him though for actually going to work instead of having his girlfriend sign up on welfare!

As for the football player, at first I felt sorry for him because he couldn't afford college. But after I thought about it I soon became annoyed. For one, did he even try to pick up a part time job? Second of all there are 2 colleges in the area that offer students to work their way through school. Not to mention the fact that I'm sure he was eligible for grants and loans.

And the mother, Angel whose daughter said they couldn't afford enough food for the month. Well maybe if her mother would actually buy good food that last, instead of pop and chips with her food stamps they could make their food stamps last all month.

I did feel sorry for the little girl whose mother was addicted to drugs. But she had a chip on her shoulders and I'm sure she will make it.

I know exactly how you feel! You tell them girlfriend! I bet it took 2 years of searching for sister Diane to find those poor people. I do not have any respect for Diane Sawyer and I will be watching in the morning to see how she responds to all her negative feedback she got from the Eastern KY people on the website for ABC. I am still PISS'D...I bet she ignores it. What you want to bet? ....Fran

I'm so glad to find another KY resident that feels that way. I'm in Western KY but we still get crap like "OH you're wearing shoes!" and the such. I hate but I agree with you.
